ABOUT US

Indreni UNESCO Club also known as Rainbow UNESCO Club is a non-profit organization incorporated in Kathmandu under the Organization Registration Act of 1977. It was set up in 2009 to improve the socio-economic status of poor women, especially widows, single mother and handicapped women. In order to achieve our mission, we are focusing on skill enhancement and market based income generating work such as handicraft production.

IUC’s strategic goal is to alleviate poverty in local communities by uplifting and empowering poor families which are living below the national poverty line within the ideals of UNESCO. We also aim to scale up the awareness and efforts against drug abuse, HIV Aids, girl trafficking and other social evils.

TRAININGS WE CONDUCT

Non-Formal Educational Training

Education is important for the personal, social and economic development of the nation. Having a good education will empowers minds that will be able to conceive good thoughts and ideas. So we promote educational campaigns first and foremost so that all the women can make their own life choices.

Handicraft Training

Indreni UNESCO club empowers women, single mothers and disabled women by giving them handicraft training so that they can support themselves and their families. These training have empowered women in terms of both skill and income and has enhanced their socio-economic status.

Skill Development

Under the skill development program, more than five thousand adults have successfully participated in post-literacy skill development program. Equipped with the knowledge of 3 R’s from these classes, they have succeeded in acquiring life skills of different crafts to supplement their financial life.

Advanced Sewing and Cutting

Indreni UNESCO club has recently dove into the advanced sewing and cutting market. The raw materials, such as cotton, imported from abroad are finished into wearable products which are ready to be shipped to the local as well as international markets. This program also provides further employment opportunities for underprivileged people, but it also helps in promoting our local labor skills to the international world. By producing quality products, we can show that it is not necessary to import ready-made cotton products when there are equally skilled people in our own country.
